Buddy's 2nd Eye Health Update

We'll continue to keep you updated on Buddy's eye health. This past week we brought him to a holistic vet for another opinion.
Buddy has Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA). This is inherited and we're told there was nothing we could have done to prevent it. Sadly, there is no cure. His diagnosis is so heartbreaking because eventually he will lose his vision completely.

We'll continue to keep you updated on Buddy's eye health. This past week we brought him to a holistic vet for another opinion.
Buddy has Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA). This is inherited and we're told there was nothing we could have done to prevent it. Sadly, there is no cure. His diagnosis is so heartbreaking because eventually he will lose his vision completely.
We already know that he cannot see out of his left eye. The goal is now to prolong the vision in his right eye for as long as we can. (Though we are seeing some changes already.)
He is not in any pain and his eye pressure is in the normal range. The eye drops we give him (3x a day) are doing their job. And he also takes an eye health vitamin once daily.
One of the major reasons we saw a holistic vet was to ask about diet and supplements. We have looked into many alternative options. A friend of ours recommended a pet company out of Australia with holistic animal remedies such as herbs, supplements, etc. Their company helped her 4 year old cat heal completely after a cancer diagnosis.
The holistic vet we brought Buddy to this past week was kind. He's going to take a look at some of their advice and their supplements. (Yes, we brought him 4 pages of printed notes to review for us. Can't hurt!)
We're grateful that Buddy will live a long, happy life and since dogs are so adaptable, he will be okay. Oh, and his ophthalmology follow up appointment is in early December.
We appreciate the stories you've shared with us. They really help, along with the good vibes, healing energy, prayers and love. Buddy's diagnosis will not stand in the way of his mission to spread joy and be an advocate for animal rescue!

Buddy's behavior has not changed. He is the sweetest pup and continues to be! He follows Lil Sis around the house. He plays his piano, enjoys his walkies around our neighborhood and beagles his many toys!
